A Unique Catchy Name

I was trying to figure out what part of a frog would make good jam when I first saw the jar sitting on the shelf. So I asked Brittany if it was really made from frogs. She must hear that question a lot because she didn't laugh at me. She explained what the jam was made of and mentioned that it was one of the most requested items they had. FROG Jam is named by the ingredients. None of the ingredients come from the four legged little guys though. Frog stands for Fig, Raspberry, Orange and Ginger.

So I bought a jar.

I'm not a big jam or jelly eater. There is a jar of grape jelly in my fridge that is celebrating its first birthday this summer with 98% of the jelly still in it. So I can see my husband thinking we'll just have a "big jam" party next year with all the jars of jam and jelly we've colleted. (ok thats corny but had to say it!)

Sunday night I decided to try the jam. (can't write about it if I haven't tried it!)

So I toasted two pieces of bread, opened the jar and spread the jam onto them.

It was easy to spread with little pieces of the fruit pulp noticable. Sort of reminded me of marmalade.

With the first bite I'm trying to figure out if any one ingredient is more overpowering than the next. Nope I can taste the oranges and the raspberry and they seem to be blended well. The jam is sweet and the ginger adds a little punch to it. Just enough to give it a unique blend. (I've never been able to pick out the taste of figs when they're in something.)

It's Wednesday morning and the jar of Frog Jam doesn't look like its going to be celebrating a one week birthday let alone a one year birthday. There's less than half the jar left. I've been eating a couple pieces of toast for snacks throughout the day. It has such a good unique taste that it's much more appealing than cookies. There are 80 calories per serving but I'm not into counting those anyway. I eat what tastes good and this Frog Jam from Idle Hour Ranch tastes good. Hope my granddaughter comes back over soon as she hasn't gotten to try it yet!
