Gardening Terms OBasic Gardening Terms starting with the letter O.
I've gathered a list of some of the common terms you may read about when dealing with gardening. This list is by no means a complete collection of horticultural techniques and terms.
0 Garden Termsoffshoot: A branch that grows from the main stem.old wood: A branch of a woody plant that is one or more years old. organ: A structure composed of a variety of tissues; seed plants are considered to have only three organs: roots, stems, and leaves. organic:A substance produced by plants or animals not man made. organic gardening: gardening method using all natural not made made chemicals. ornamental:A plant grown for its foliage, form, flowers rather than for agricultural production. outer bark: The outermost dead layers of bark, from the surface of the innermost cork cambium. ovary: Organ of a flower's female part that, in fruit, contains seeds. ovicide: Chemicals used to kill insect eggs. ovule: The structure in a carpel that contains the megasprangium and will develop into a seed. own root plants: Plants that have their own root system as compared to grafted plants which use the roots and base from another plant.
