Z Garden Terminologyzone: Areas designated across North America that contain the same growing conditions. The zones are designated using numbers with 1 being the coldest areas of Alaska and parts of Canada and 11 being the warmest containing Hawaii and Mexico.zones of hardiness: The zone where a plant is most apt to be successfully grown. Gardenias have a hardiness zone of 8-10, I live in zone 5 so they are not hardy in my area.
